Abstract

This research identifies the relationship between happiness, prosocial behavior, and socioeconomic factors among the inhabitants of Riobamba, based on Self-Determination Theory, which highlights the influence of autonomy, competence, and social relationships on happiness. The study began with the application of an instrument to a sample of 384 inhabitants. By estimating a linear regression model, the results show that coexistence and educational level have a positive impact on happiness, while employment and income have a negative effect. Furthermore, market-mediated solidarity does not have the same positive impact as direct aid, while social interaction and autonomy significantly influence subjective well-being.
