Abstract

This research analyzes how globalization facilitates hybrid markets where licit and illicit activities converge in international arms trafficking. Through qualitative analysis of judicial documentation from a South American criminal network that mobilized 43,000 weapons and $240 million, three key mechanisms are identified: parallel financial systems that exploit regulatory asymmetries, facilitating border spaces with hybrid governance, and criminal corporatization enabling simultaneous operation in legal and illegal markets. Findings demonstrate that contemporary criminal organizations have developed adaptive capacities that challenge traditional state regulatory frameworks.
