Abstract

The construction sector, being a labor-intensive economic activity, has experienced adverse effects because of the confinement and restrictions derived from the covid-19 pandemic. In this context, the research tried to identify the differences before, in the pandemic and after it, in Ecuador. For this, the data reported by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses were used, from which contrast tests of hypothesis of mean differences were carried out. Additionally, a multiple linear regression model was estimated for the number of buildings and dwellings, with the independent variables of pandemic, employment, gross domestic product (GDP) and the average income of the population, resulting that only GDP is statistically significant in the explanation of the behavior, which may be since the impact of the pandemic is reflected in the contraction of economic activity.
